Acid Rain investigation Essay Example for Free
Acid Rain investigation Essay o There are many different kinds of erosion but acid rain or else wind erosion are the two main types which could have eroded the marble statue which was positioned in the garden close to the industrial site. o Acid rain is made up from of a cocktail of different acids e. g. sulphuric acid, nitric acid, carbonic acid. Sulphuric acid is released into the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil, nitric acid is given off from car exhaust fumes, These gases react with water vapour and oxygen from the atmosphere and with the help of sunlight turn to acids and fall to ground in the forms of precipitation with high acidity levels which are between pH 1. 5 and 5 (acid rain or acid snow). o Sulphur dioxide is harmful to humans and can led to bronchitis and other lung diseases. o Sulphur is released into the atmosphere through burning fossil fuels; most of the worlds air pollution is due to the smoke given off from burning things. o The increasing amount of acid rain, which falls each year, is due to the increasing amount factories and vehicles on our roads. o Lakes in Scandinavia are effected very badly by acid rain even though very little of it is actually produced there, it is carried mainly by prevailing winds from Germany, France, the UK and other large industrialised European countries. o Acid rain can destroy trees by removing vital minerals from the soil, buildings, metal work e. g. cars, bridges, it can also destroy lakes and rivers killing all fish and plants which live their, acid rain can also take effect on are health. o Nitric acid could be the main power in acid rain for it is the most corrosive of all the acids which make up acid rain. Calcium carbonate + sulphuric acid = calcium sulphate + water + carbon dioxide CaCO3+H2SO4= CaSO4+ H2O+CO2 This word is equation is not to blame for the erosion of the marble statue because calcium sulphate is an insoluble participate which means that when the calcium sulphate come into contact the statue will be coated preventing it from any further erosion. With sulphuric acid not the blame for eroding the statue that leaves nitric acid and carbonic acid, carbonic acid is very week and therefore it would not be possible for it to erode the statue in such a short time, so that means the acid which has eroded the marble statue is nitric acid Calcium carbonate + nitric acid = calcium nitrate + water + carbon dioxide CaCO3 + NH3 = Ca(NO3) 2+ H2 O+ CO2 What am i going to investigate? : I am going to find out how the concentration of nitric acid would effect the marble statue and would quickly it will erode depending on how high the concentration of acid is. With the results I gain from this experiment I will draw up a graph to show how the concentration has taken effect. Safety: Like all experiments safety is very important and everything should be done carefully, safety goggles should be worn at all times in this experiment, we are using acids which are very strong, especially nitric acid, and therefore can easily burn so extra care is needed. All rules for experiments should be fallowed, to prevent any unwanted accidents, e. g. chairs below tables, tie tucked in. Fair test: To make this experiment fair a number of things must remain the same through-out the investigation: 1. same volume of acid used through-out, will be 25cm3. 2. Same type of acid used in the testing, in this experiment it will be nitric acid which I will use. 3. Every investigation must be done in the same temperature, this will be room temperature. 4. Same weight of marble used which will be measured to two decimal places. 5. So my results are correct I will do each experiment twice and find the average from the two tries. Apparatus: 1. Electronic scales- will be used to weigh out the marble to an accuracy of two decimal places. 2. Measuring cylinder- this will be used to measure out the volume of the acid. 3. Stop clock- used to time how long the marble is reacting with the acid. 4. Marble chips- will be used to react with the acid; some of the marble will be in powder form to speed up the reaction. 5. Nitric acid- will be used to react with the marble chips. 6. Beaker- will be where the reaction will take place. 7. Safety goggles- used to protect your eyes in case of any spillages, should be wore at all times during the experiment. What affects the rate of reaction? There are three main factors which can effect the rate of reaction on the marble statue they are: The concentration of the acid- the higher the concentration the more collisions will take place therefore erosion occurs quicker. The pressure of the acid- the higher the pressure the more collisions due to the particles being closer together. Temperature- the higher the temperature the more energy the particles will have meaning they will more much quicker and cause more reactions. Light- the amount of light available can alter the rate of reaction for the light will give energy to the particles which will increase the number of collisions. The size of the solids surface- the larger the surface area the longer it will take to be broken down, so a reaction on a solid with a small surface area will take a less time. Variables: Controlled- what I will keep the same through out this whole investigation is the mass of the marble which I will be used, it will be measured accurately using electronic scales. The volume of the acid will also be the same and it will be measured out using a measuring cylinder. Independent-this is what will be changed through-out the experiment, I will change the concentration of the acid for each part of the investigation. Dependent- I will measure the length of time it takes for each concentration of acid to erode the marble pieces. This will be done using a stop clock. Prediction: I think that if the concentration of the acid is increased the speed of the reaction will increase, this is because with a small concentration of acid mixed with marble there is less acid particles to react with the marble meaning there are fewer successful collisions, with a much larger concentration of acid mixed with marble more collisions will take place because there are more acid particles which means that the reaction will take less time. Suitable range of readings: I will have to collect enough readings from my experiment to draw a graph, this means I will need more than 5 readings, so If I record a reading every minute I should have enough information. I will do each experiment two times and take the average results. From this I will draw a graph to show the concentration of acid against time taken.

Theory of Deontology Analysis
Theory of Deontology Analysis Malik Jones This paper will argue why deontology is the most plausible ethical theory in my opinion. I will deliberate how should we live, how should we interpret the human condition, the most serious objections to this ethical theory, and how should one who holds this ethical theory respond to these objections. According to deontology, we should never inflict wrong onto anyone, or thing because no matter the circumstances, it will always be wrong. It does not matter if you are trying to save a trolley full of people hurtling down towards a group of workers by sacrificing one person, or if you are trying to steal two dollars from someone who has one million dollars, no matter the circumstance you shall never inflict damage to anyone no matter how big or small the matter, or the circumstances. In deontology, no matter what wrong you do, no matter the circumstance, whatever you do that inflicts damage to others or anything, it is immoral and you should feel deprived about the situation. People who have faith in deontology, or deontologist, think that morality is a matter of duty. People have moral responsibilities to do things that are right and moral duties not to do things that are immoral. Whether something is correct or incorrect doesnt depend on its penalties or magnitude. Rather, a deed is right or wrong in itself. The only thing that should drive human beings is the desire to do the right thing. Not money, power, material things, or even possibly doing things to achieve some sort of eternal life, but we should do the right thing, for no other reason, besides the fact that doing the right way is the right way or the only way. Kants claim is that the moral standing of our behavior is determined exclusively on the basis of the rightness and wrongness of the action itself. This means that it is unconditionally wrong too, for instance, self-defense, in all conditions, regardless of the consequences. For example, say there has been a case of armed robberies around your community by a group of ruthless criminals. Law enforcement also believes that this group of individuals have been bouncing from city to city and maybe even have had jobs in several other states, but they were not harming anyone who let them come in, take what they want, then leave.Ã Then one day, a group of people comes to your house late at night, while all of your family is asleep. The thieves came this late in the night expecting no one in the house to be awake. Little do they know that you are wide awake in your house a reach away from a twelve-gauge shotgun that can inflict enough damage with one or two shells to ensure that your family will remain safe and that no other family will have to suffer the wrath of these men. The only question left in the mind of a deontologist is that will you save your family and yourself or will you inflict damage to others, and if you let them just come and take whatever they want, then your family will be left with none of the means that you once had to survive on that you spent your life working on. This is one serious objection to deontology that pushes many people away from it, because most people will acknowledge that it is right to do the right time all the time for the sole sake of doing right, but they dont appreciate the fact that deontology requires no matter what you must always do the right thing no matter the circumstances because most people will want to save their family for the greater good if at all possible in this scenario for example. Just like in any great debate, though, ever objection can get counteracted which is certainly the case with even the most severe examples such as the one stated before. One might argue that if the father had time to hear and know they were coming, he had time to react without inflicting harm to the home invaders. He could have got his family and left the house before the invaders broke into the house. When the news hit that this group of people were now currently in their area, they should have come up with a signal to let everyone in the house know that the invaders were there and came up with a plan to evacuate and meet up somewhere to call the appropriate authorities. Or if evacuating wasnt an option, then contact the authorities and have faith that they will do their job to either stop the thieves in the act or catch them in a timely manner to restore your family to the way it was before they broke in. You also never know the circumstances that made them start to burglarize you, to begin with. Lets say that it is revealed that the group of individuals are all family members, and they have no health insurance, but their mother is terribly sick with cancer and they cant afford to get her the treatments that she drastically needs without committing these acts. If you kill them instead of giving them what they want, not only are you killing people that had no intention to kill you unless necessary, but you would also be killing a person who was in no way shape or form related to the crime that the guys were committing because she was completely unaware of what her family was doing to pay for her treatments. Deontology, while not perfect, gives the best explanation of the human condition and is the most plausible ethical theory out of all the lessons that we were taught in class. To me, while it may not be realistic in every single case, if society would look at life from a deontologist point of view, the world would be a much better place.

Shakespeares Macbeth - The Two Sided Lady Macbeth :: GCSE English Literature Coursework
The Two Sided Lady Macbeth à à à à à à à à à à à One of the main characters in the Shakespearean play Macbeth, is the wife of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth.à Lady Macbeth is a very two sided character in this play.à She consistently acts differently when she is with her husband than she does when she is not.à There are various examples of this exhibitied in the play. à à à à à à à à à à à One of the most notable examples of this is contained in Act I Scene v when Lady Macbeth reads the letter written to her by Macbeth.à Shortly after reading it, she makes the comment that she feels Macbeth is too kind toà murder Duncan and that he will need her help, strength, and willpower toà commit it.à However, after she hears that Macbeth is returning home, she callsà upon evil spirits and other demonic entities to give her some aid.à She doesà this because she realizes that she doesnââ¬â¢t have the strength of will to persuadeà Macbeth into murdering Duncan after all.à Then, when Macbeth arrived, justà after she finished praying for help, she acts as if she has a heart of stone andà that Macbeth is not a man if he is afraid of killing Duncan.à This is a primeà example of her deception towards him, and how she acts differently when sheà is alone than when she is around him. à à à à à à à à à à à Another example of her being two sided is the role she talks aboutà playing in Duncanââ¬â¢s death, and the role that she actually does play in it. There are a few times in the play, mostly when she is attempting to persuadeà Macbeth into committing the murder, that she says he should just leave the murder to her.à Throughout the play she gradually decreases her role in the murder until it becomes Macbethââ¬â¢s job to kill Duncan, not hers.à This is another very large trick on her part, but one that Macbeth also fails to see; à Whether it is because he chooses not to, or because he is too naive to realize it. à à à à à à à à à à à The last noteworthy example of her inconsistency occurs between Act I Scene vii and Act II Scene ii.à In Act I Scene vii she severely scolds Macbeth for having second thoughts about committing the murder.à She tries to get rid of his rational thoughts by saying that he must not really love her if he can change his mind on the murder, which she says he promised her he would do.

Women in Song Lyrics essays
Women in Song Lyrics essays I said it must be ya ass cause it aint ya face. This is a quote from a very popular song today by Nelly about a woman. Objectification of women in song lyrics is something mostly used in hip hop. It has become a cool thing to degrade women through song lyrics. There are several artists today that use this as a tool to sell their music; the three that I will focus on are Nelly, Ja Rule, and Outkast. There are also those artists who challenge this degrading of women. One of these artists is Christine Kane. Nelly is a very popular hip hop artist today, whose music is very well known. Nellys song, Tip Drill, is a song completely about the objectification of women. It includes lyrics such as, It must be ya money, cause it aint ya face.....I got you payin my bills and buyin automobiles.....I know you a trick go spend that shit, turn that ass up mama put that dip in ya back, now baby girl bring it over let me spit my pimpjuice, I need a freak to hold me tight....for seven days and seven nights....I need a freak that will not choke....let me stick it down her ohhh, and the chorus, I said it must be ya ass cause it aint ya face. This song is sending listeners the idea that a womans face does not matter as long as she has money or a nice body. It is telling women that they are simply an object for the mans enjoyment. These lyrics are telling men that it is okay to view and treat women in this degrading way. It is showing them that they do not need to have any respect for women. Now moving on to Ja Rule, he has a song called Mesmerize that uses objectification of women as one of the main points of the song. These lyrics include, Girl your stare, those eyes....your lips, your smile, your hips, those thighs....and I cant deny....I got a fetish for f ...

Further, after realizing what the essay question and the primary argument are, you should concentrate on the supportive ideas that will prove the trustworthiness of essay writing. Moreover, the most compelling way of supporting an idea is providing a credible piece of research, study, survey, or other supporting literature helping to convey the main point of the essay. An essay, as every type of academic paper, needs to be aimed at a particular audience. Thus, it is critical to adjust a piece of writing for a possible reader regarding the writing style, vocabulary, and other factors such as involvement in the actual human resources management that will affect the final perception of the paper. Finally, the example of a poorly constructed human resources essay is a vague ultimate goal of the article, overuse of the HR terminology, and not structuralized writing that fails to concentrate the attention of the audience and convey some idea or concept to a reader. The following steps will guide you as a writer in writing a comprehensive human resources essay: Choose a topic that is relevant to your field of study and corresponds to your academic interest; Establish the final goal of paper writing to inform, describe, analyze or persuade; Develop the essay question the answer to which you will put in the logical conclusion; Do enough research on an issue from the reliable sources of information; Come up with an outline for your essay before starting writing it; Do not plagiarize and remember about academic integrity; Cite the sources correctly; Proofread an essay on grammar and spelling mistakes. The Structure to Follow in a Human Resources Essay You should write in accordance with the typical essay structure that includes an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Introduction The first paragraph of an essay disregarding the matter of the topic is an introduction. Thus, creating an appealing introductory paragraph is the essential task for you as a good writer because the words in this part are first that a reader sees and those can attract him or her for the further reading or discourage from it. Moreover, the opening sentences of the paper represent its critical information and establish a writing style of an essay and a tone of a writer. In fact, several human resources essay tips can help you to construct a successful introduction. Every paper needs an attention-getter (a phrase, sentence, idea, question, or other writing phenomena) that attracts the attention of a reader by standing out with the uniqueness or controversial, debatable nature. You should provide a background for your essay writing. Remember that there are some cases when an audience may not be familiar with the concepts that are in your paper (not only professors will read your essay). So the establishment of the basics of the issue or primary arguments of the writing is a necessary part of an introductory paragraph. In fact, it is useful to add some information or experience to an essay for making it more trustworthy and directly cooperating with a potential reader. Furthermore, as was mentioned before, the introduction can repel the audience from reading the paper further. In fact, the example of a poorly-constructed introductory paragraph is the vague establishment of the main issue, misuse of the linking words and phrases for the better flow of the thoughts, and ignorance of the significance of a thesis statement, which is a crucial part of the first part of an essay. Thesis Statement A thesis statement is the last sentence of the introductory paragraph that introduces the primary argument or the essay question to a reader. It acts as the core idea of the paper. Moreover, the construction of the comprehensive and narrow thesis statement is an essential part of academic writing, and that can be easily destroyed. The following examples are of the poor thesis statements: Human Resources management is essential for a firm; HR strategy of Apple is better than one of Samsung; The main principles of human resources management are staffing, rewards, and planning a workplace. These examples are vague and not debatable. The thesis statement should not generally be agreed upon but show the one point of view that will be supported in further writing and proven in the end. The next examples are of accurate and debatable thesis statements: What some people refer to as efforts of stakeholders and investors as the primary factors of Appleââ¬â¢s success is nothing more than a comprehensive human resources management. The personal techniques of the Microsoft Human Resources Committee are the defining aspects of its success over Apple. Instead of focusing on the classification of structure Human Resources management, it is critical to investigate how those structural units cooperate and act in a firmââ¬â¢s development. Body Paragraphs There is no specific number of body paragraphs. However, the majority of writers may use the standard structure comprised of three main paragraphs. Also, you should remember that each section should represent a supporting idea and start with a topic sentence that indicates the concept for the following paragraph. Moreover, the structure of three body paragraphs can be demonstrated on the mentioned possible topics, for instance, the one with the classification of human resources where three supporting ideas can describe how three principles of HR affect the development of a company. In contrast, if you link the topic of the paper to the personal background or experience in the introductory paragraph, each following one on the body can demonstrate each supporting idea with the same linkage to the real life. Conclusion The last paragraph of an essay is critical for the successful implementation of the idea of the writing into the minds of the audience. In fact, the conclusion is a summary of the whole essay. Moreover, the outcome should essentially restate the thesis statement, and review each supporting point that would strengthen the argument. Remember not to infiltrate the concluding paragraph with the new ideas or concepts. Finally, with the help of transitions, the flow of the summary and the final overview of the main principles of the essay should go smoothly with the establishment of a final thought in the discussion. 3 Additional Aspects of Good Essay Writing The first factor that you as a writer should understand is that the readability of the paper is the critical element of a readerââ¬â¢s perception. In fact, making an essay easy to follow is to make the length of paragraphs no more than two hundred words. The whole writing should be logical with the transition from one idea to another. The supportive concepts provide assistance by strengthening the understanding of the thesis statement by the audience. Moreover, the number of sentences in paragraphs should be more or less equal to the minimum of three per section that takes the four lines. Finally, you should remember to organize the writing around the thesis statement that is the core of the essay and its driving idea. 1. The Correct Usage of the Information Sources Yes, an essay needs to have the additional sources for supporting the points in the paper. In fact, as was mentioned before, you should remember about the academic integrity and honesty that should not allow you to plagiarize. Thus, using the ideas of other people is normal but if only those are correctly cited and referenced. Further, researching a background of the issue will provide a necessary inside for you and give the advantage in writing an essay. Finally, there is a variety of different Internet bases that can assist with the search of credible studies or pieces of research on human resources management. The following are just a few examples of such web sources: Taylor and Francis Online; Research Gate; Emerald Insight, etc. 2. Referencing in a Proper Way As for referencing of the additional sources in an essay and formatting it accordingly, there is a variety of styles and formats that assist in adjusting the proper look for academic writing. The mentioned examples are MLA, APA, Chicago, Turabian, and others. However, one of the most widespread styles is MLA that will ideally suit for the needs of a human resources essay. The primary rules of this format are the four lines on the first page (name, instructor, course, date) following by the topic name with center alignment and the ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢ page. The style for referencing is the following one: Authorââ¬â¢s Name. Publication Name. Publication Information (edition, volume, issue, publisher). Year of publication. 3. Proofreading and Editing The last stage of writing an academic paper is proofreading that finalizes the writing and makes it ready to be seen by a potential audience your instructor. You should check the variety of factors before submitting an essay, for instance: The logical flow of ideas, The validity of the thesis statement, The correct order of the supporting concepts, The use of relevant examples, The cooperation with the used sources, Grammar and spelling, etc. Also, feedback is a critical part of the essay editing because it gives the viewpoint that differs from the perception of a writer of this particular essay. In fact, giving your paper to a friend, family member, supervision professor to read is a necessary step in finalizing the writing. Finally, as for the grammar and spelling mistakes, you should proofread the paper several times and use one of the varieties available on the Internet that can assist with the overall quality. Hopefully, this human resources essay guide will significantly help you with writing a good essay on Human Resources. After all, you can ease your mind a little bit on this challenging procedure.
